Art Description
This is a painting of a Bhutanese clown known as ‘Atsara’ ,or Dupthop (Enlightened being) , witnessed every year during the mask dance festivals. Defying contemporary norms and socially accepted human behavior at their level, they rise above feelings of shame, anger, desire and the like. They neither crave nor want.

About the Artist
As a young kid I had little interest in academics and enjoyed drawing. It became my favorite thing to do and eventually I realized the love for art at a very young age. I joined VAST Bhutan in 1998. I gained a lot of knowledge which encouraged me to pursue a career in art as a full-time artist. Today, I am a contemporary artist based in Thimphu, working as a freelancer. My work has been exhibited in several Asian countries such as Nepal, Malaysia, China and India.
Born 1983, from Trashigang
